Our VEC team working on the Perth Links Road upgrade project in Tasmania are passionate about mental health. They also love their footy, so they were pretty excited to receive a visit from an expert in both AFL and mental health recently.
Former Victorian Premier, Jeff Kennett, visited the VEC team and their joint venture partners on the Perth Links Road upgrade project, Shaw Contracting.
Jeff is a Board member of the Hawthorn Football Club, and also the founder of Beyond Blue, a leading independent non-profit organisation that addresses issues associated with depression, suicide, anxiety disorders and other related mental disorders.
“We were very honoured to have Jeff Kennett speak to the team,” VEC State Manager, Owen Cavanough, says.
“Mental health is an area the team are passionate about and there are a number of activities and initiatives we regularly organise in support of our commitment to mental health, including regular toolbox talks on the topic.
“Having Jeff Kennett share not only his insights and experience regarding mental health, but also his personal insight and mechanisms to manage anxiety and stress was very well received and appreciated by the project.
“And, needless to say there were also a few questions about the AFL and Hawthorn Football Club, who a number of the project team have embraced as their local Tasmanian team.
“On behalf of our VEC Shaw JV, a big thank you to the Hawthorn Football Club for showing their support and commitment to the local community, and to Jeff for taking the time to speak to the team and sharing knowledge and insights about mental health (and AFL).”
